Innovation, sustainability, performance, functionality, material health, and intelligent and advanced manufacturing processes are pivotal in my recent work, research, and intellectual property. My experiences extended as an academic (instructor and administration), owner, entrepreneur, and industry consultant.
Driving the development of strategic industry partnerships through high-yield global contacts and sourcing to establish an integrated supply chain while engaging stakeholders and consulting, researching, and innovating in textile engineering, strategy, technical design, material and product development, advanced manufacturing, and supply chain management. Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to travel extensively across Asia, Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia, and the Middle East.
Technologies and products include athletic and fashion performance footwear: sports materials, e-textiles—including wearables—and biomedical and wound care. Innovations in master-batch tech, extrusion, fibers, yarns, knitting, and weaving have led to many advancements and IP, including seamless knit technology used by the US Olympic Rowing Team 2016 and several other technologies across many brands and industry partners.
My academic coursework at Thomas Jefferson University includes over 254 courses in textiles, materials, and product development. The most recent interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary courses focus on collaboration with industry partners and involve projects that provide real-world classroom experience. Previously, I served as the Program Director for the BS in Textile Product Science and the MS in Global Fashion Enterprise.
My recent entrepreneurial experience at Thomas Jefferson University includes my role as Vice President of Innovation and Technology, where I focused on product development, research, and commercialization strategies. In this position, I founded Hemp Black and trademarked the name and logo. The foundation of Hemp Black is supported by industry-funded research and private investment. I had the opportunity to publish and obtain 7-patents. Hemp Black is now part of Ecofibre Advanced Technologies, of which I remain a stakeholder.
Additionally, I am a partner in Stable Core Technologies. With high-performance textiles and a dynamic fit, this clinically proven, patent-pending customizable shirt enables us to address directional instabilities in the trunk. This change allows users to achieve immediate core stability and functional improvements. These modifications consistently demonstrate effectiveness and efficacy. Populations include older adults facing balance challenges who are at risk of falls, patients with orthopedic and neurological conditions (such as MS, Parkinson’s, and other brain and motor function disorders), individuals recovering from injuries, and those aiming to enhance athletic performance.
I am proud to serve the Pennsylvania Fiber Shed as a member of the board and advancement council for Kanbar College-Thomas Jefferson University.
